Cuban vocalist · Songwriter · Educator
Salsa, Timba, Afro-Cuban, and Latin Jazz.
The artist
Cuban roots.
Global sounds.
Iris Sandra Cepeda’s repertoire spans Salsa, Timba, Afro-Cuban music, Latin Jazz, Cuban classics and original songs. As a vocalist, songwriter, performer and educator, she brings that range to the concert stage, the recording studio and the classroom.
Born in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, she trained at the Escuela Nacional de Arte. Her early work with Arte Mixto brought Cuban musical traditions into conversation with jazz, classical music and flamenco.
Based in Los Angeles, Iris is a longstanding vocalist with Andy García & The CineSon All-Stars. García has called on her for concert and recording projects over the years. Her background vocals appear on Israel “Cachao” López’s Cuba Linda and the GRAMMY-winning ¡Ahora Sí!, both produced by García. Alongside those collaborations, she develops her own repertoire as a bandleader and songwriter, and shares her musical foundation through education.
